お盆にお坊さんから聞いた話。

しごと。

【仕事】と書いて「しごと」と読むが、以前は【為事】と書いていたそうだ。本来は「する+事」だから、語源から言えば後者のほうがより正解だ。

勤め人にとっては仕事でもいいんだろうが、でも、自営業者でも勤め人でも大事なのは「現状で何を為すべきか判断して実行すること」であって、その選択肢として「誰かに仕えて労働すること」を選んでるって事を、たまに忘れてたりする人がいるみたいだ。

で、この「現在の自分の状況を認識して判断する」事を、【あきらめる】と言うらしい。「give up」では無い。批判的に見るのではなく、冷静に把握して現実を受け止めて「明らかに見る」で【明らめる】。


「夢があって仕事ができるってすごいですね」

と、二十歳過ぎの女性に言われたが、その娘が「就職したけど一日で辞めた」とか「1年間バイトしているが、未だにレジが覚えられない」とかだと、その賛辞もなんだかなーと思ってしまった。

あのさあ。夢が無くても生活のために労働するのは尊いことだよ。社会人一年生には一日で社会を推し量る技量は無いよ。一年かけても為事が身に付いてないのは、アンタが何一つ明らめてないからだよ。

甘く楽しい職を求めてフワフワとバイトしてる方が、よっぽど夢のある職業だと思うけどね。
